An acquaintance who shares with me our first name pointed me to this incredible blog out of India, called "India Uncut".
Amazing how politics of cricket and Bollywood stars can change into firsthand accounts of how much of the disaster relief is failing.

Hopefully, he post on a higher note than the Fanta girls, Debbie Reynolds, and the very tired Anna Nicole Smith.
Again, Killer Boots... you are going to make me change my opinion of Columbia grads. (Even when one of my best friends got her masters from the Columbia School of Journalism, I did not waiver in my distaste of the whole student body.) A Taibbi retrospective... I would not have guessed it.

Ok, so I was completely put off by him putting up link to a Maddox post that said "Dawn of the Dead" should win at the Oscars. (Because really, it smells like laziness.)
BUT... the site that he linked to, had one of the funniest flow charts I have ever come across. I don't know what made me laugh harder, the "cranky old bitch" who signs up for the internet with "AOL 9.0 optimized with AOL TopSpeed Technology", or "Sends link to menstruating old crones on iVillage.com who are also offended but keep reading anyway."
Maddox is always good... although somehow he had fallen off of my radar. I know somewhere in his site there is a great post about how we're not all Dave Chappelle and only he should say, "I'm Rick James, bitch!"

desiccated - Granted, a good word for dry and lifeless. Not used much though.
oenephilic - Is a modern word, and not really used in a way that the ancients would like. (Most dictionaries do not include the word.) He has used it twice this week, both times when talking about "Sideways". (I had a professor in college that forbade the use of this word. )
I kind get the feeling that Guest Editor Defamer didn't like "Sideways". Must be a New York thing.

Guest Editor Defamer is making my head hurt. Worst Scientology joke ever.
I swear this headache is from his horrid coverage, and not the four (or five) tequila based drinks I had last night.
Maybe it was six.
J needs to get back soon and post.
I need stop reading K's. Seriously.

Some guy named Paul Davidson, has this great blog manifesto posted.
I especially approve of:
I will not post about my failing relationship.
I will not talk about polls, the act of taking polls, or the results of any given kind of poll that will tell you which Lord of the Rings character, Star Wars character, cartoon character or Dr. Who character my personality says I should be. There is a great comic strip called Dork Tower, which has done some great bits about people just having quizzes and such in the blogs.
I will not take pictures with my cell phone and create a mini-blog that is supposed to be interesting because I have taken all these strange pictures (whose resolution sucks anyway) while I walk through my day-to-day activites that may include a post-office box, my shoes, a dead animal carcass in the street or a sleeping bum.

The Defamer Guest Editor is completely phoning it in now. Using words like "farging", and citing an old review for the movie "Sphere".
That, and another lame link to something Oscars, because this man seems to be obsessed with the actual MOVIES that get nominated.
Doesn't he realize that this time of year, all we want to hear about is the infighting that is already happening for the Oscar parties?

So, The Library of Congress selects a bunch of films every year that they feel should be preserved for the ages. You're lying if you say you have heard of them all, much less seen them all.
"Ben-Hur" (1959), "The Blue Bird" (1918), "A Bronx Morning" (1931), "Clash of the Wolves" (1925), "The Court Jester" (1956), "D.O.A." (1950), "Daughters of the Dust" (1991), "Duck and Cover" (1951), "Empire""Empire" (1964), "Enter the Dragon" (1973), "Eraserhead" (1978), "Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers" (1980), "Going My Way" (1944), "Jailhouse Rock" (1957), "Kannapolis, NC" (1941), "Lady Helen's Escapade" (1909), "The Nutty Professor" (1963), "OffOn" (1968), "Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor" (1936), "Pups Is Pups" (1930), "Schindler's List" (1993), "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1954), "Swing Time" (1936), "There It Is" (1928), "Unforgiven" (1992).
From Variety:
Latest selections span 1909 to 1993 and "encompass films ranging from Hollywood classics to lesser-known but still vital works," the Library of Congress said in a statement Tuesday. The pics, it added, aren't necessarily either "the best" or "the most famous."
Good to see they had an explanation for "Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers", the documentary about the Gilroy Garlic Festival. (An event that I've been meaning to go to for years, but always remember to go about a week too late.)
Wish there was a movie blog to discuss this list in a more intelligent way than I have just done.

Found this pretty well-known blog "Anonymous Lawyer". Real or not, it is written by a "partner" at a NYC firm. And even if it is fake, the people that post back in the comments section tend to be lawyers and law students.
I love this quote from right before the Thanksgiving break,
"We had a little party in my practice area today at lunchtime, to celebrate Thanksgiving. What a waste. You don't think about this when you're an associate, but as a partner it becomes very clear that every dollar that gets spent on unnecessary frivolities is money out of my pocket."
Sounds familiar.
Posted in D's blog today. Don't know why, other than they had left a pretty vital film off of their year-end list, especially come Oscar time. Did it under my usual anonymous name though. Don't know why, other than I don't think D's partner likes me, so I feel like I have to hide. (Which is pretty sucky.)
Probably should not have posted, but, what can you do. The downpour hasn't stopped all day and with all the noise it is making, I haven't been able to concentrate enough read/write/pay bills.
It feels like nothing is happening this week. More than just the Guest Defamer not posting anything else past mid-afternoon.
